1. Introduction
This manual will help you to install GOOSE VPN with the OpenVPN Connect app on your iOS device step by step.
2. Download the OpenVPN Connect app
Download the OpenVPN Connect app in the App Store. When the app is downloaded and opened, you will see this screen. Tap on "OVPN Profile". We are going to add a profile for one of our servers, so you can connect with it.
3. Download the files
Then, we need to download some files. Open the following webpage in your browser:
https://my.goosevpn.com/downloads
Click on the "Manual setting", next to Apps and Router and scroll down, until you see the .ovpn files (OpenVPN) tab. You can click on this tab in order to view the available .ovpn files. These documents include the OpenVPN configurations with which you can connect with our servers. For example, the Netherlands 24.ovpn file is needed to connect with the Netherlands 24 server.
Below (or next of, depending on your resolution) the .ovpn files, you can find the token. Remember where you can find this token, since you will need it later.
4. Import the .ovpn file
When the file is downloaded you open it with the OpenVPN Connect app. It becomes visible under Import Profile > File in the OpenVPN Connect app. Tap Add to add a profile.
5. Add the profile
Now you will see a screen where you have to enter a Username and Password. Tap on "Username" and enter the email address you used to register with GOOSE VPN.
Then tap on Password. Here you have to enter the token you saw in the third step. We recommend that you copy the token from the webpage and paste it into this input field.
After you have entered your email address and the token, you need to tap the Save button at the top right or the Add proxy button at the bottom right to add this profile.
NOTE: Do you not see the password field? Check Save password. The password field will then be shown. Do you not want to save your password? Then you can enter the token in the next step.
When you Click Save or Add Proxy you have to give permission to OpenVPN to add a VPN configuration. To do this tap Allow. Use your Touch ID or another verification method to add the VPN configuration to your iOS device.
6. Activate the OpenVPN profile
The profile you have just added now appears in this list. Tap the grey toggle at the left side to activate this OpenVPN profile and connect with this server.
If you didn't enter your password in the previous step, you will now be asked to do so. Enter the token you found in step 3.
After this you have to give OpenVPN permission to enable the VPN connection. Tap Yes.
7. Check if IPv4-only is active
We recommend that you check if the connection is currently set to only allow the use of IPv4. We currently do not support IPv6, and advise that the connection will be via IPv4-only. Fortunately, the OpenVPN Connect app offers a feature that allows the connection to be configures as IPv4-only!
Click on the three stripes in the upper left corner to browse the settings.
Scroll all the way down, and click on the arrow next to ADVANCED SETTINGS, in order to open all the settings.
Scroll down again, until you reach the Block IPv6 settings. And make sure to check Yes.
Great! Now we know that the connection will be using IPv4 only.
8. Add more servers or stop the connection
Eventually, the toggle should get green and the VPN connection starts. Now you can add more profiles for other servers by tapping the big orange button at the bottom right. This will make it easy to switch between different servers.
If you want to stop the VPN connection, you can tap the green toggle.
9. Do the free online privacy check
To see if the VPN connection is set up correctly, you can use our free online privacy check. The website will immediately let you know if your connection is secured or not.
Does the website indicate that you are safe online?
Congratulations! You are now secure only with GOOSE VPN via the OpenVPN Connect app on your iOS device.
